Carbon TAG 50 Hull & Deck & Bulkheads being offered for sale in South Africa. She is currently owned by a boat yard who’s staff are highly experienced in the art of composite boat building. They are prepared to complete the vessel if so required. It is estimated that to complete the vessel to a high specification level would cost in the vicinity of R15m ex VAT. A wonderful brochure detailing the specification is available.

Progressing forward from other recent designs by Greg Young, the TAG 50 takes the open plan living concept into new territory.

The main saloon has sliding doors that slide away (hidden) and fully open up the main living areas to the outside areas. The solution is extremely simple and opens up the living areas to offer wonderful 270 degree views and excellent ventilation.

The twin sailing cockpits are well place to enjoy sailing. The wheels are located aft and outboard with an excellent view of the rig and waves, not to mention ideal for backing the vessel into a tight mooring or coming alongside. The winches are directly available from the helm position. What makes this layout so appealing is the outboard settee where everyone can sit and enjoy the sailing rather than being stuck behind the main cabin and separated from the sailing action.

The TAG50 will sail faster than the true wind speed from 5 knots of breeze up. The up-wind performance rivals that of performance mono hulls. This makes for a yacht that can be enjoyed in warm pleasant conditions for both those who are sailing enthusiasts and those along for the ride.

    Apartment style living
Moving forward from the saloon, the bridge deck level master cabin is complete with a walk around/king size bed (1.8m wide), shower and bathroom. The concept is akin to a studio apartment and while it can be closed for full privacy, leaving it open allows views forward through the large forward window/hatch that can be opened for better ventilation if so required. Each hull has its own private en-suite cabin which would on a typical sailing cat be referred to the owner’s hull. In total there are essentially 3 “owners’ cabins”.
